VERMONT FOODBANK TEAMS WITH WOODS TEA CO FOR BENEFIT CONCERT IN SERIES TO END HUNGER
Barre, VT- For the next installment in their Concert Series to End Hunger, The Vermont Foodbank will team up with Wood’s Tea Co for a benefit concert on May 3, 2008 at the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Burlington. Wood’s Tea Company, who sold out the First Unitarian Universalist Society during First Night, is an acoustic group that performs fiery Celtic tunes, bluegrass, sea shanties and American folk songs with ease and skill. During a performance, they use as many as a dozen different instruments including banjos, bouzoukis, guitars, bodhrans and traditional tin whistles. Folk Music Quarterly described Wood’s Tea Company as, “…One of the hottest up and coming acts,” saying, “Sidestepping pretension and going for the grit, this New England group gives a lusty performance, every time.” This collaboration with Wood’s Tea Co. is one of many recent performances in the Foodbank’s Concert Series to End Hunger, a series aimed at educating individuals on the realities of hunger and raising funds to support the work of the Foodbank. Other recent performances in the series have included those by Bluegrass Gospel Project last October and Yukon Kornelius in January. The Vermont Foodbank is excited to once again partner with Wood’s Tea Co. The Foodbank had the privilege of working with Wood’s Tea Co in 2006 for “Moonlighting in Vermont.” Douglas O’Brien, CEO of the Vermont Foodbank, said, “Our partnership with Wood’s Tea Company is an exciting next step in our ongoing Concert Series to End Hunger. All over the state, we are partnering with musicians to tell the story that hunger in Vermont is unacceptable. We are fighting hunger in every community, and feeding hope for a hunger-free Vermont.” Patti Casey, formerly of Bluegrass Gospel Project, will also appear with the band for this performance. Casey joined the band for their Midwest Tour beginning in April. Tickets to the show are $15 (adults) and are available by calling 1-800-585-BANK until May 1st. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door on May 3rd. Show begins at 7pm.
