Green Mountain Divas Give Back to the Community

Barre—The Vermont Foodbank’s Community Kitchen looked fashionable last weekend as eight members of the Green Mountain Divas, decked out in red hats, cut nearly 200 pounds of carrots to add to the beef stew they made for distribution to the Foodbank’s 270 Network Partners statewide. The spent their Saturday morning fun-time in one of the Foodbank’s most popular volunteer opportunities, the “Sortathon.” The Saturday morning volunteer program runs two or three Saturday times a month from 8 AM to noon at Vermont’s only food bank located in Barre Town about 5 miles from Interstate 89  Exit Six. The Green Mountain Diva contingent produced 650 pounds of beef stew – enough to feed nearly 1,000 people. Clubs, faith-based organizations, corporate groups, school classes and other interested individuals from communities throughout Vermont are helping to build a hunger-free Vermont through their generous donations of time, food, and money. Last year, the Vermont Foodbank, a member of America’s Second Harvest—America’s Foodbank Network distributed 6.4 million pounds of food to food-insecure people in communities throughout Vermont. (Red) hats off to the Green Mountain Divas.
