Group Aims To Help Community With Food, Fuel

WPTZ

The mix of high fuel prices and cold New England winters has some worried they may not be able to pay their bills this winter. A group of friends in the Northeast Kingdom has started an organization to try and support food aid to needy families.

Group Aims To Help Community With Food, Fuel

The group, Heat or Eat, started when a group of friends in Danville, Vt., realized conversations at their weekly pool games were turning more and more to high gas prices.

"One of the topics that was always on our mind was the price of fuel," said Cindy Chaffee, one of the group's founding members. "People on fixed income and seniors, what are they going to do when winter comes?"

The kickoff event for the group is a music festival on Saturday in Lyndonville, Vt. The event will benefit the Vermont Food Bank, which has seen less donations in the past year.

Owen Murkon said the community has been enthusiastic about supporting Food Aid. He hopes for a strong showing at the music festival.
