Food Rescue Program

Food Rescue Program

The Vermont Foodbank is always on the lookout for new sources from which to obtain food.  This enables us to increase distribution and diversify our food mix.  The Foodbank’s procurement manager is on the road meeting with restaurants, cafeterias, food manufacturers and distributors, retail markets, farmers, and other establishments to let them know about our food rescue program and our need for non-perishable items.

We accept close-to-code, perishable and prepared foods in addition to shelf-stable items. During the growing season, we encourage vegetable farmers to donate excess produce from their gardens.  The Vermont Foodbank also has access to food sources through America’s Second Harvest - The Nation’s Foodbank Network (A2HN).  A2HN leverages its buying power to obtain donations from national food manufacturers for member food banks across the United States.
